We are currently recruiting for an Outside Enquiry Officer in Ashton-Under-Lyne.
Pay rate: PAYE 17.19 per hour.
Hours: Office hours are Monday to Friday, 07:00-15:00 / 08:00-16:00
Contract duration: Temporary ongoing
Department: Serious Crime Division
Purpose:
To investigate, arrest and bring those responsible for serious crime including murder to justice.
Duties:
Administration:
- Comply with the National Crime Recording Standard and minimum investigative requirements.
- To promote and comply with policies on health and safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others.
- Comply with and promote equality legislation and our client’s policies on diversity and equality. Take steps to eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations.
- To fully participate in a development review process
- If you have responsibility for staff; to manage staff development, performance and attendance using appropriate policy and procedure.
- To comply with the requirements of our client’s policies on Drug and Alcohol testing – requirements in respect of specific posts/ roles are described in the policies which are available on the Intranet/SharePoint.
- All staff and officers must adhere to and comply with Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Human Rights legislation and the Authorised Professional Practice (Information Management). It is the responsibility of all staff and officers to maintain data quality and security. Therefore, when inputting, updating, and using information, you are to ensure that it is Accurate, Adequate, Relevant and Timely (AART), and that it is used / disclosed for business purposes only and kept secure. The most current guidance and advice in respect of compliance with the legislation and information / records management standards can be found on the Information Management Intranet site/Information Services SharePoint site.
- Supervisors and managers have the additional responsibility of ensuring that staff undertake the appropriate training and fully understand and apply the required Force policy, procedures, and information / records management standards in the course of their duties. Supervisors and managers should ensure that staff / officers understand their responsibilities in maintaining data quality and security and have appropriate processes in place to monitor compliance.
Dealing with people:
- Interview witnesses and suspects concerning major investigations and take statements.
- Interview possible suspects either to eliminate them from enquiries or to assess their involvement in the offences under investigation.
- Deal with representatives of outside agencies such as DSS, Inland Revenue, Customs and Excise etc.
- Liaise closely with uniform colleagues, divisions, and branches to share information and to assist in the identification of crime trends for prevention and detection purposes.
Other Duties:
- Search premises in connection with major crime.
- Gather information on major crime.
- Attend Scenes of Crime and make initial enquiries.
- Keep up to date with local criminal activities through personal sources of information, in line with Force policy. Recruit Covert Human Intelligence Sources.
- Assist in the arrangement of identification parades.
- Liaise with subdivisions, FIB, divisional OPUs and Field Intelligence Officers.
- Liaise with other agencies such as NCIS, NCS, Customs and Excise.
- Be prepared to undertake duties as Receiver, Statement Reader, Action Manager, Disclosure Officer, or Exhibits Manager in Major Incident rooms (As detailed in Major Incident Standard Admin. Procedures) MIRSAP.
- Work on a rota basis at weekends and outside normal hours when required.
