Major Crime Investigator (Warrington)

We are currently recruiting a Major Crime Investigator based in Warrington on a 6-month temp contract.

In this role you will be required to act as an investigating officer in major investigations providing a range of skills and abilities to the senior investigating officers.

1. Assist with investigations by interviewing and taking statements from victims and witnesses taking into account rules of evidence.

2. Gather appropriate medical and forensic evidence.

3. Liaise with other officers and departments within the organisation, with partner agencies and/or the voluntary sector in order to manage and minimise the threat to or risk of harm to witnesses.

4. To act as liaison officer for witnesses of crime, and where appropriate support them through the criminal justice process. This will include providing regular and ad hoc updates on investigations to witnesses as appropriate.

5. To secure and preserve evidence through the proficient use of technical equipment and IT systems from mobile phones, computers, digital cameras, audio-video recording equipment, CCTV download systems, police intelligence systems, property management systems and file preparation systems.

6. To support colleagues (possessing warranted powers) with attendance at scenes of crime and ensure that all available evidence is protected and secured in order to maximise forensic opportunities (i.e. manage the so-called “Golden Hour”).

7. To provide professional specialist advice and knowledge to colleagues within the organisation in relation to all aspects of crime investigation and case file management.

8. Liaise with other officers and departments within the organisation, other police forces, external agencies and the public in relation to the gathering of evidence, identifying and tracing offenders, and ensuring all aspects of the investigation are taken into account.

9. Seek and exploit criminal intelligence opportunities in order to prevent and detect crime and submit intelligence reports on suspected criminal activity as and when that intelligence becomes available.

10. Complete Holmes actions and submit the results electronically to the Major Incident Room via the Holmes account

11. Effectively apply the disclosure test to unused material and prepare detailed disclosure schedules via the Holmes account.

12. Undertake any relevant task at the discretion of a detective sergeant or senior investigating officer, as deemed commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of the post. This may include the seizure and viewing of evidential material, undertaking house-to-house enquiries, making a media appeal, and undertaking property related enquiries.
