Holmes Typist (Kent)
20th December 2019We are currently looking for a Holmes Typist based in Kent on a full-time 12 month contract.
Main Purpose of the Role:
Provide an efficient and effective word processing and administration support service in respect of general word processing and the transcription of media recordings in varying formats, more often than not, of a highly sensitive and covert nature, for special operations and any other Force Wide department, requiring assistance, to support the successful prosecution of offenders, via the Victim Justice system.
Main Responsibilities:
– Transcribe in an accurate, well presented, accessible and in a timely manner, media recordings in varying formats, on behalf of the Serious Crime Directorate, including transcribing distressing recordings of a harrowing nature and identifying and ensuring appropriate wording is used to transcribe the visual interpretation of DVD recordings, in support of the successful prosecution of cases and offenders via the Victim Justice System.
– Transcribe in an accurate, well presented, accessible and in a timely manner, media recordings in varying formats, for a variety of specialist departments relating to undercover operations of a highly sensitive, secret and confidential nature, including transcribing multi-voice recordings containing foul, abusive and obscene language obtained at various locations, in support of the successful prosecution of cases and offenders via the criminal justice system.
– Produces text onto the HOLMES system (Home Office Large Major Enquiry System), from a variety of source documents and recorded interviews. Quality Assurance is the responsibility of the post holder in relation to copy typing.
– Transcribe in an accurate, well presented, accessible and in a timely manner, media recordings in varying formats, telephone calls which may implicate others involved in criminal activity, including 999 recordings in support of the successful prosecution of cases and offenders via the Victim justice system.
– Provide word processing and administrative support in connection with off site locations of a secret or high risk nature to reduce the risk of leakage of information, when the immediate transcription of information for officers to act upon is essential to the successful progress of the investigation and eventual successful prosecution of cases and offenders via the criminal justice system.
– Transcribe interviews with foreign accents and dialects, where at times an interpreter may be present, ensuring a legible and understandable product is produced, summarising non-evidential parts of a recording and transcribing in full the evidential content.
Essential experience:
The post holder will have a good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent, including English Grade C or above. Accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation are essential.
Excellent word processing and audio typing skills are mandatory with a high degree of accuracy. An assessment typing test will be undertaken with a pass rate of 60% copy typing and 50% audio typing.
The post holder must have a working knowledge of computer systems, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel and possess the ability to rapidly familiarise themselves with new and emerging technology.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
The post holder must be highly flexible and be able to work additional hours when operational demands dictate as are self-motivation, initiative, problem solving and decision making skills and the ability to work alone and as part of a team, are essential.
HOLMES is a National database system whereby training is required before you can be given access. Training is in relation to the use of the system as well as the national typing conventions to be used when typing onto
HOLMES.
Training will also be given in relation to all database systems and software/hardware transcribing equipment.
Vetting is mandatory to security clearance level.
Location: Kent
Contract: 12 months (on going)
Pay Rate: £8.60 per hour
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
