We are currently looking to recruit 4 Investigation Officers<\/strong> to join the Safeguarding Investigating Unit based in Staines on a 3 month on going contract.<\/p>\n

Purpose of the Role:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. To work as part of the SIU team undertaking necessary enquiries including, but not limited to, statement taking, exhibit handling, witness and victim contact and undertaking prisoner processing through interview and initial file preparation and submission.<\/p>\n

2. To prepare court files in respect of early first hearings (expedited files) and early administrative hearings (remand files) and to prepare internal files in respect of those offenders suitable for caution, reprimand or final warning<\/p>\n

Key Accountabilities<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 To maintain a workload of risk assessed Domestic Abuse and Vulnerable Adult cases. To also assist the team with other criminal investigations and any subsequent arrest of a suspects. To ensure a high standard of case building.<\/p>\n

\u2022 To prepare and conduct formal interviews under caution in accordance with the provisions of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE), with persons held in police detention. To ensure that concise and accurate statements are recorded, meet the required evidential quality standards and comply with guidelines laid down by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Where appropriate, complete house-to-house enquiries, property related enquiries and the taking of fingerprints for elimination purposes<\/p>\n

\u2022 Assist with searches following the arrest of an individual and, where appropriate, seize and retain evidential property or other items.<\/p>\n

\u2022 To process and document prisoners, where appropriate and in accordance with the legislation on consent of the detainees, secure DNA samples, record and transmit fingerprints, and photograph. To ensure that the evidence is gathered and complies with the provisions of PACE and court procedures<\/p>\n

\u2022 To secure and preserve the continuity of evidence and exhibits. To ensure that evidence is gathered and complies with PACE and force procedures.<\/p>\n

\u2022 To complete and submit all information source data relevant to any prisoner charged, or cautioned in accordance with national and force procedures relating to PNC Phoenix applications. To ensure that such data is complete and transmitted within the agreed timescales.<\/p>\n

\u2022 To prepare and submit prosecution files for presentation to the CPS or Court to the required Manual of Guidance standard (quality and timeliness) in order to assist with the prosecution of offenders<\/p>\n

\u2022 To thoroughly investigate the accuracy and suitability of bail applications, and in those cases where bail is appropriate, ensure that any conditions subject to that bail being granted are brought to the attention of the custody sergeant prior to the prisoner being released from detention<\/p>\n

\u2022 As required attend court and give evidence in relation to those aspects of any investigation which are within the post-holders personal knowledge or in which the postholder has had any involvement during the investigation process.<\/p>\n

\u2022 To actively seek intelligence through interview technique in support of operational proactivity in the identification and targeting of known offenders or crime trends.<\/p>\n

\u2022 To make accurate and timely submissions of actionable intelligence via the force intelligence systems.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Subject to the required training and prevailing operational conditions in custody, to assist with the taking of digital images for the purposes of assisting identification procedures in relation to detained person, and to assist in the administration of these procedures as required.<\/p>\n

Knowledge, Skills and Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

Essential:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Proven experience in investigation matters and of conducting interviews to a high standard.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A working knowledge of criminal law and of the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A high level of interpersonal and oral skills, with an enquiring mind and the ability to get on with people whilst being able to be assertive when required<\/p>\n

\u2022 The ability to operate a computer database system and\/or the willingness to undertake training and become proficient in the use of Surrey Police systems.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A methodical approach to work.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The ability to work effectively unsupervised and as part of a team.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A full and valid driving licence for motor cars.<\/p>\n

Desirable:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 An awareness of equality and diversity issues in the working environment.<\/p>\n

\u2022 An understanding of Data Protection issues in order to ensure that information is handled and filed correctly.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Knowledge of custody procedures in relation to prisoner detention and processing.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A flexible and creative approach to problem solving.<\/p>\n
