We are currently recruiting a Senior Technical Consultant based in Manchester on a permanent basis.<\/p>\n
The Senior Technical Consultant role, reporting to the Head of Investigations, will contribute to all aspects of the services and solutions provided:
\n\u2022 Conduct forensically sound acquisitions, analysis and examinations of computer systems and associated media, either on site or in the lab, ensuring continuity of all exhibits and maintaining integrity throughout;
\n\u2022 Direct other members of the Technical Team and advise them accordingly in relation to complex matters;
\n\u2022 Secure and retrieve data from computer systems in accordance with ACPO guidelines, utilising proprietary and bespoke software, in order to preserve evidence gathered during the course of investigations;
\n\u2022 To record the details of analysis and investigations undertaken and maintain the confidentiality of this information;
\n\u2022 Have a sound understanding of database forensics including Oracle, MySQL, PostgresSQL, Microsoft SQL server, Access etc;
\n\u2022 Previous experience with reverse engineering databases to replicate an instance and run queries over the data;
\n\u2022 Attended onsite projects and image data held within complex server setups both physical and logical;
\n\u2022 Acquisition and understanding of unfamiliar online accounts and cloud-based systems;<\/p>\n
\u2022 In relation to databases, and to varying degrees, be able to identify reasons for failure of a database, decipher data and ascertain possible causes of corruption, explain inconsistencies in the data of a database, reconstruct missing data and\/or log files associated with the deletion, audit user activities and isolate suspicious and illegal behaviour, live testing of systems and analysis of source code to determine whether it is \u2018clean design\u2019 or takes themes, lines of code or concepts from other reference code<\/p>\n
\u2022 To liaise with other bodies or agencies as and when required;
\n\u2022 To ensure the work meets quality standards in providing a service to all clients; to report or escalate issues, as appropriate, to the Head of Investigations;
\n\u2022 Prepare detailed reports, Criminal Justice Act statements and exhibits to a standard suitable for use in criminal or civil court in support of these investigations;
\n\u2022 To present evidence in court in a clear and comprehensive manner and advise junior members of staff in relation to court tactics;
\n\u2022 To ensure that appropriate security and access control of forensic tools, systems and evidence is maintained at all times;
\n\u2022 To develop experience and detailed technical knowledge of current technology and the wide variety of tools and techniques used to assist in the acquisition and analysis of evidence and the identification and recovery of data;
\n\u2022 Conduct training with the Technical Team, specifically targeted to identified knowledge gaps ;
\n\u2022 To assist, in a tutor role, in the training and development of any investigator or technician, when required to do so;
\n\u2022 Assist the Business Development to quote for new cases by previewing case objectives;
\n\u2022 Remain current on laws and procedures required for processing search and seize orders;
\n\u2022 Conduct and assist with proactive investigations to include investigation of more complex cases beyond the competency of investigators;
\n\u2022 Work closely with the Head or Corporate investigations and advise in a technical capacity;
\n\u2022 Work with Head of Investigations to determine best forensic analysis strategy required for complex cases;
\n\u2022 Assist with procurement and maintenance of software and hardware for computer forensic investigations; execute verification tests of forensic software and hardware and methods to independently validate functionality;
\n\u2022 Assist with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and recommends modifications as necessary;
\n\u2022 To maintain professional liaison and membership in professional organisations for cross-feed of technical information;
\n\u2022 To adhere to all policies, practices and procedures;
\n\u2022 Maintain safe working practices in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work policy;
\n\u2022 To attend regular mandatory counselling sessions as required;
\n\u2022 To undertake any other duties that may be required;
\n\u2022 To be prepared to work outside of normal office hours and\/or to travel as and when required;
\n\u2022 Work is performed under the general supervision of the Head of Investigations.
\n\u2022 To report or escalate issues as appropriate to the Head of Investigations;
\n\u2022 Have a sound knowledge of ISO accreditations and assist with their development.<\/p>\n
