{"id":254,"date":"2019-06-17T11:49:25","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T10:49:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.policejobs.co.uk\/?post_type=jobpost&#038;p=254"},"modified":"2019-06-17T11:49:25","modified_gmt":"2019-06-17T10:49:25","slug":"mounted-groom-milton-keynes","status":"publish","type":"jobpost","link":"https:\/\/www.policejobs.co.uk\/?jobpost=mounted-groom-milton-keynes","title":{"rendered":"Mounted Groom (Milton Keynes)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are currently recruiting a Mounted Groom based in Milton Keynes on a 6-month contract. 37 hours per week.<\/p>\n<p>Purpose:<br \/>\nWork in direct support of mounted officers by providing assistant in the care of police horses, maintenance of stable facilities, driving horseboxes, ensuring adherence to current policies and procedures and instruction of equitation skills.<\/p>\n<p>Key Accountabilities:<br \/>\n\u2022 Responsible for feeding, \u2018mucking out\u2019 and grooming of all horses; including clipping, first aid, monitoring of stores (e.g. feed, medical and tack) in accordance with current instructions<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Exercise horses in school and in public areas, in accordance with current instructions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Accountable for the cleanliness, tidiness and hygiene of equipment, the stable complex and approaches including the m\u00e9nage, paddock and horseboxes to comply with Health &amp; Safety legislation.<br \/>\n\u2022 Responsible for the welfare of the horses, monitoring their health and reporting on their condition to ensure that any issues are appropriately dealt with in a timely manner.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 When required, drive to major functions and ensure compliance with the box driver\u2019s responsibilities and current Road Traffic legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Provide information and conduct visits to the department when required<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Provide equitation instruction to mounted police officers and staff (to include NMC standard, intermediate, advanced equitation and accredited instructor qualifications, civilian staff up to British Horse Society Stage 4 level).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Assess potential mounted police officers and returning mounted police officers in relation to suitability and required standard to resume mounted duties in line with NMC guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Prepare and monitor individual training plans for all mounted officers as well as maintaining reports and records associated with all aspects of training, to ensure appropriate and accountable records are available if needed.<\/p>\n<p>Essential:<br \/>\n\u2022 Good standard of education with GCSEs (Grade 9-4\/A-C) or Key Skills level 2 or equivalent in Numeracy and Literacy.<br \/>\n\u2022 Attained or working towards the following qualifications \/ accreditation or equivalent: BHSII in riding, grooming and coaching (Levels 2, 3 or 4) \u2013 or overall complete horsemanship qualification (Levels 2,3 or 4)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Attained or currently working towards the following qualifications \/ accreditation or equivalent: NMC Intermediate Advanced Instructor<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Recent and relevant experience in horse grooming with proven ability to ride horses of different temperaments, sometimes schooling youngsters.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Proven ability to present horses to a high standard; competent to clip and undertake a range of stable duties and committed to the welfare of horses.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Proven ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision, maintaining high standards whilst working as a team member to time sensitive deadlines.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Proven capability of undertaking physically demanding work with use of manual handling techniques (training given).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Must have capability to travel to different locations across the Force and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. Due to the requirement to work flexibly, unsocial hours and for personal safety when lone working, public transport may not be available or suitable at these times.
