To investigate criminal activity.<br \/>\nTo actively participate in a wide range of evidence gathering<br \/>\nand criminal investigation tasks involving victims, witnesses,<br \/>\ntechnical sources and suspects.<\/p>\n<p>FIXED TERM UNTIL MARCH 2020<\/p>\n<p>MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:<br \/>\n1. Investigate offences of crime, and to actively participate in a wide range of evidence<br \/>\ngathering and crime investigation tasks. Exercising designated Investigating Officer<br \/>\npowers.<br \/>\n2. To interview and record the evidence of victims of crime and witnesses to crime, in<br \/>\nstatement form or by an ABE interview as appropriate. In some cases this will need<br \/>\nto be supported by the gathering of appropriate medical and forensic evidence.<br \/>\n3. To act as liaison officer for victims and witness of crime, and where appropriate<br \/>\nsupport them through the criminal justice process. This will include providing regular<br \/>\nand ad hoc updates on investigations to victims of crime as appropriate.<br \/>\n4. To formally interview suspects in a manner that is compliant with PACE and other<br \/>\nlegislation.<br \/>\n5. To secure and preserve evidence through the proficient use of certain technical<br \/>\nequipment. Examples of such technical equipment and IT systems include digital<br \/>\ncameras, audio-video recording equipment, CCTV download systems, police<br \/>\nintelligence systems, property management systems and file preparation systems.<br \/>\n6. To attend scenes of crime and ensure that all available evidence is protected and<br \/>\nsecured in order to maximise forensic opportunities (i.e. manage the so-called<br \/>\n\u201cGolden Hour\u201d).<br \/>\n7. To prepare and submit complete evidential files to the Crown Prosecution Service<br \/>\nobserving the highest professional standards, and meeting the required Manual of<br \/>\nGuidance standards in relation to quality, timeliness, disclosure and evidential<br \/>\nintegrity. Then to attend court hearings, where necessary, to present the evidence<br \/>\nin person.<br \/>\n8. To provide professional specialist advice and knowledge to all colleagues within the<br \/>\norganisation in relation to all aspects of crime investigation and case file<br \/>\nmanagement.<br \/>\n9. To liaise with other members and departments of the organisation, with other police<br \/>\nforces, external agencies and the public in relation to the gathering of evidence,<br \/>\nidentifying and tracing offenders, and ensuring that all aspects of the investigation<br \/>\nare taken into account.<br \/>\n10. To seek and exploit criminal intelligence opportunities in order to prevent and detect<br \/>\ncrime, and to submit intelligence reports on suspected criminal activity as and when<br \/>\nthat intelligence becomes available.<br \/>\n11. Undertake any relevant task at the discretion of a detective sergeant or senior<br \/>\ninvestigating officer, as deemed commensurate with the nature, level of<br \/>\nresponsibility and grading of the post.
