MISSING PERSON’S CO-ORDINATOR (MILTON KEYNES)
12th September 2019We are currently recruiting a Missing Person’s Co-ordinator based in Milton Keynes on a 3-month ongoing contract.
The overall purpose of the role is to: Manage missing person cases to ensure information provided to operational police officers is timely, in live time and escalate incidents as appropriate. Undertake office-based enquiries and maintain a consistent approach to all missing person investigations.
The key result areas in the role are as follows:
1. Daily check MISPER occurrences, all relevant Unique Reference Number logs (URN’S), relevant Crime reports and Crime related incidents. To ensure:
• all initial default actions have been completed and recorded properly within the MPDB/NICHE (Open and closed cases)
• accuracy in the status of updates in relation to live missing person investigations, reviewing intelligence and providing a central point of contact for investigating officers
• notwithstanding any agreed protocols where CSE is suspected to be occurring, ensure that safe and well interviews have been completed and any disclosures are progressed and recorded and referred in the correct manner
• monitor and review all absent occurrences to ensure compliance
2. Undertake office based active investigation of missing person cases and additional enquiries as tasked by the duty supervisor, including enquiries into banking, Facebook, Dept. of Works and Pensions checks (DWP) etc and record results on the MPDB/NICHE.
3. Attend and administrate the Missing Children’s panel or their equivalent for each Local Authority. Make daily referrals of missing children to Childrens social care.
4. In order to provide a comprehensive picture and status of the enquiry collate and transfer data/information from other databases and sources onto the MPDB/NICHE Create and close enquiries within the MPDB/NICHE as determined by the progression of the enquiry. Undertake general administrative duties as required or allocated.
5. Identify and highlight repeat missing episodes, patterns and trends to LPA and Missing Childrens panels or their equivalent. Liaise with the supervisor where visits to children’s homes are required.
6. Prompt and liaise with supervisory officers to ensure reviews are conducted at appropriate times. Liaise with the LPA duty supervisors to identify issues with particular cases and agree further actions to be undertaken.
7. Generate referrals by way of crime or crime recorded incident, for any children missing who may be of particular concern (e.g. those who may be subject to sexual exploitation / missing three times or more in the previous three months) as per S.O.P.
8. Act as SPOC in MISPER cases for all partner agencies and family members,
maintaining regular contact as directed in relevant cases.
9. Inform and update the National Missing Person Bureau and helpline of all missing
person cases more than 14 days old. Initiate closure of the missing person cases that do not meet ACPO guidelines.
Skills/experience:
1. Good standard of education with excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
2. IT literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Word and
Outlook. The ability and desire to learn and implement new systems as technology
advances.
3. Proven organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise conflicting demands/cases.
4. Proven ability to be assertive and proactive in moving cases along, and co-ordinating
progression of the cases.
5. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written and the ability to forge positive
relationships with individuals at all levels both in and outside the force.
6. Proven ability to have a methodical approach to work including a high level of attention
to detail.
7. Proven ability to acquire a basic understanding of the law and Force / LPA policy and
procedures
8. Recent risk analysis experience with experience of providing a problem solving
approach to missing person’s cases.
9. Previous experience of using force systems including: Niche, PNC, Command and
Control.
