We are currently recruiting a statement taker based in Kempston on a full time 6 month contract. £11.74 per hour.

In this role, you will be supporting Bedfordshire Police in achieving its objectives by investigating volume and priority / serious crime and the provision of services to relieve arresting officers of the responsibility of further investigation, processing/disposal of detained persons and file preparation.

Key Responsibilities In accordance with relevant legislation, Code of Practice and Force Policies:

Working with police officers, specialist departments and other agencies, carrying out investigative and other work into crime, non-crime and general process matters, to assist in intelligence and evidence gathering, including interviewing witnesses.

Preparing written statements of evidence and giving evidence at court or other hearings as required.

Interviewing detained persons to secure and maintain continuity of evidence, exhibits and intelligence, arresting detained persons for further offences while at the police station where necessary. Taking DNA samples, fingerprints and photographs. Dealing with legal representatives, including supervising access to and photographing of seized material.

Preparing case papers and prosecution files for presentation to the Crown Prosecution Service or court to the required standard.

Obtaining search warrants and searching of premises, including those conducted following arrest, as appropriate, in support of police officers and seizing exhibits.

Undertaking thorough investigation of the accuracy and suitability of bail applications.

Assisting with identity parades by escorting suspects or witnesses and taking statements.

Assisting other Criminal Justice Units in case preparation in order to meet targets for quality and timeliness.

Escorting a person on arrest elsewhere than at a police station to a police station or a person in police detention from any police station to any other police station or place as directed by a custody officer. Searching of persons prior to escort, seizing and retaining relevant things as necessary.

Undertaking new responsibilities introduced by the Criminal Justice System as necessary and assisting police officers with general administration duties relevant to the role.
