We are currently recruiting an Investigative Support Officer based in Ashton Under Lyne. 6 months ongoing contract.

In this role, you will be based in the Serious Crime Division.

Responsibilities:

The nature of this role means that all the level of the duties and responsibilities listed below will apply to all the posts.
Individual post holders will be expected to carry out any of the duties as they progress through the career grade

• To understand and provide administrative support for the core functions of the Major Incident Team in accordance with MIRSAP, answer telephone enquiries, obtain and accurately record information, completing and submitting messages into the Incident Room. To record and maintain accurate financial records and expenditure.

• Act as Investigating Officer within a Major Incident Room, investigating allocated ‘actions’ as required and gathering evidence to the required standards in support of prosecution cases

• To support witness management including:
– obtain statements from witnesses including police officers, professional and expert witnesses, ensuring that statements are accurate in detail and submitted into the MIR
– interview witnesses to obtain detailed witness accounts or comprehensive witness statements as appropriate to the circumstances.
– ensure witnesses are contacted and transported to and from court where required
– provide appropriate support to such witnesses throughout the criminal process.

• To support the processes regarding seized material and exhibits including:
– ensure labelling, recording and safe handling of all exhibits.
– manage or assist as required in the recording, inputting of exhibits onto the HOLMES2 database and entering property and exhibits into the GMP property system when items are transferred to divisional property stores.
– undertake the examination of all seized articles in particular the viewing of CCTV, DVD, videos and where appropriate material held in computer format e.g. floppy discs, CD ROM. Preparing viewing logs and evidencing including taking of witness statements to prove provenance and continuity of exhibits. Including presentation of CCTV and other images into a computerised digital format to aid briefings and delivery of evidential presentation of such material for the SIO, investigation team and Crown Prosecution

• When required, provide a balanced, accurate and reliable summary of recorded interviews in accordance with the Manual of Guidance.

• Conduct research on persons of interest with internal police departments and external agencies e.g. GMPICs, OIS, VIS, Crime Recording, PNC, HOLMES2.

• To complete proofreading of typed documentation in MIR including officers’ reports, witness statements, transcripts of interviews etc.

• To manage or assists as required in MIR documentation including filing and storing of disclosure documentation and transfer to murder library, or assist in this process.

• To support the warrants process including

– prepare paperwork in relation to obtaining search warrants from the Courts.
– In conjunction with police officers, execute search warrants and undertake searches.

• To assist in the completion of files and associated paperwork in respect of prosecutions.

• To promote and comply with GMP’s policies on health and safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others.

• Comply with and promote equality legislation and GMP’s policies on diversity and equality. Take steps to eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations
