We are currently recruiting General Enquiry Officers based in Kirkby and ST Helens on a 6 month contract.

In this role you will be the first point of contact for people attending at the police station and you will be required to provide a high level of customer service. Enquiry officers are required to assess information reported to them, to understand the level of threat, harm and risk in order to decide on the correct response. Whenever appropriate Enquiry Officers will attempt to resolve enquiries during the initial contact, this includes taking reports of crime and road traffic collisions, to non-crime enquiries, dealing with people signing on for bail and other legislative reasons. Other administrative duties are involved.

Applicant should have a good working knowledge of policing, they must possess knowledge of force policies and procedures. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and an ability to deal with distressed, aggressive or abusive customers. Applicants must be competent in the use of computers, the role requires the use of numerous systems both internal and national.

Successful candidates will be given full training in a classroom environment. Once in post you will be required to work shifts Monday to Saturday between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00.
You be based at one location, but must be prepared to travel to other stations within the force area if required.

The staff will be required on a full-time basis, which for GEO’s is 36.5 hours per week. Successful candidates would be asked to work from one station for the majority of their duties, on a Saturday they would be asked to work from another station (generally the busiest station, ie those working from Kirkby would work their Saturday shift from St Helens. There may be occasions during periods of abstraction that they may asked to work from another station.

The shift pattern will be the same as a General Enquiry Officer. It is likely that it will be a 10hr shift pattern averaging 36.5 hours per week (excluding ref breaks), so is likely to be 4 days in 7. The shift pattern will be a 3 week pattern and they will be expected to work one Saturday in three. They will get an enhancement for the hours after 19:00 and for Saturday working.
