We are currently recruiting a Forensic Collisions Investigator based across Devon and Cornwall on a 4 month contract.
Scale: £15.94
Location: Forcewide
Duration: 4 months

• Provide expert assistance at the scene of fatal and life-threatening road collisions and support the force with an expert Forensic Collision Investigation service.
• Attend and forensically map the scene of fatal and life-threatening road collisions and other incidents as appropriate, using a variety of methods and equipment to prepare evidential scale plans and other visual representations

• Report on such incidents as agreed with the investigation team, by ensuring appropriate material and topography is photographed and by identifying, preserving, interpreting and presenting evidence which will assist the investigation

• Provide analysis of vehicle borne data to identify offences, substantiate allegations of mechanical failure, and ensure that procedures are conducted in line with national requirements

• Provide in an expert witness capacity, within your capability and expertise, advice, reports and liaison with relevant parties throughout each investigation, maintaining the highest possible standards in presenting a professional and unbiased expert account of events in support of the criminal justice and coronial processes

• Produce reconstruction reports by applying correct scientific principles and ensuring conclusions reached are valid and supported by the available evidence

• Engage with and implement departmental procedures in line with the requirements Forensic Science Regulator Codes of Practice and Conduct and the International Standards Organisation (ISO) 17020 standards to provide a quality service through accreditation

• Assist other team members with investigations and peer review findings to ensure the accuracy and quality of evidence is maintained

• To be on an approved ‘On Call’ rota

Requirements

• Mathematics and Physics to GCSE level or equivalent qualification
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Mathematics and Physics to A Level or equivalent qualification
• City & Guilds/UCPD in Forensic Collision Investigation
• CertHE in Forensic Collision Investigation
• Good communication skills with the ability to listen to others in accordance with the varied needs of differing situations, individuals, groups, and communities
• Able to produce concise reports or other documents
• Able to present evidence in a variety of forums
• Skilled in the use of standard IT packages, systems and/or databases to fulfil role requirements, including creating visual records
• Able to use resources efficiently
• Able to identify potential opportunities to enhance efficiency and/or effectiveness within own area of work
• Able to break down a straightforward problem into component parts and determine appropriate action, and to take decisions and evaluate outcomes
• Able to review own performance objectively and to develop and follow an appropriate continuous improvement plan
• Able to appropriately prioritise and plan own work
• Sound collision investigation experience (Desirable)
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of motor vehicle technology (Desirable)
