We are currently recruiting a Designated Investigator CSE based in Reading.
3-6 month contract.
Responsibilities
- Undertake primary and secondary investigations assessing the potential risk posed to the victim and instigate immediate tactics to mitigate risk in liaison with partners. Visit, assess and support potential victims, seize exhibits relating to the victim, complete Visually Recorded Interviews (VRI) or statements with victims and witnesses. Localised enquiries to secure evidence such as house to house enquiries, securing and preserving additional forensic evidence or other evidence relating to investigations or incidents as directed in support of colleagues.
- Manage each case individually using effective decision making to ensure that all enquiries necessary to ensure children and young people are protected from harm are followed in accordance with statutory and other non-statutory guidance.
- Attend Strategy Meetings & Child Protection Case Conferences and make decisions on behalf of Thames Valley Police in conjunction with partners in relation to placing a child on a Child Protection Plan in order to safeguard children and protect them from emotional, sexual and physical abuse and neglect.
- Support victims through the investigative process from report to court.
- Represent Thames Valley Police at other multi-agency meetings including, but not limited to, core groups, strategy meetings convened under the Children’s Act 1989 to decide on the police role in the investigation, and operational group meetings to make decisions about how to minimise risk to children and young people as well as share and gather relevant information.
- Prepare and update Niche investigations, RMO and intelligence reports for the benefit of FCID, FIH and LPA.
- Attend court and give evidence in relation to those aspects of any investigation which are within the post holders’ personal knowledge, or in which the post holder has had any involvement during the investigative process.
